Beginning of sophomore year already? Summer seemed so short to me! Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I took 3 courses (one every 4 weeks) and didn't really have time to relax before this wonderful fall semester began--I'm an overachiever, what can I say?
My freshman year was full of trials, physically and mentally, and I learned a lot about my abilities. Taking 20 semester hours in the spring wasn't the brightest thing I could have done, but I trudged through and emerged victorious! I was diagnosed with complex partial epilepsy in June, but I don't plan to allow it, my ADD, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or Fibromyalgia to interfere with my life in any way, shape, or form. In fact, these disabilities and the hardships they cause only serve to make me a stronger individual. I guess I take on the "glass half full" point of view about everything.
I'm so excited about this semester! I'm a Microbiology and Chemistry major, getting a Math minor. I absolutely LOVE the courses I'm taking and the professors teaching them: Medical Ethics, Organic Chemistry, Calculus 3, Honors Seminar 101, Medical Microbiology, and Orchestra. I'm a member of Beta Beta Beta, Health Occupations Society, and president of American Chemical Society. I work at Cape Fear Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant, which I've been doing for the past 4 and a half years, and do work study in the Science department. I'm also a violinist. I play in the MU orchestra, Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, and teach private violin lessons. Oh yea, I'm a member of the handbell choir at my church (Camp Ground UMC). As you can tell, I'm always on the go, and I don't plan to slow down anytime soon! Tests are coming up, I have plenty of club meetings to go to, and a Fayetteville Symphony concert to perform in this month. I'll let you know how everything is going in the weeks to come. My one parcel of advice for everyone: don't forget to breathe!
God Bless,
Ashley
